About the WSP

The World Salvage Project (WSP) is an open-access, work-in-progress digital humanities initiative dedicated to advancing the study of maritime visual and material culture. The WSP connects ship records, references, renderings, photographs, and surviving associated artifacts in a single searchable repository, intended to be of use to scholars and enthusiasts of all media related to maritime history.

All original descriptive content produced by the WSP — including vessel records, biographical entries, artifact descriptions, and scholarly annotations — is freely available under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0). You are free to share and adapt this material for any purpose, provided appropriate credit is given to the World Salvage Project.

The WSP does not host, reproduce, or claim rights over any third-party images, objects, documents, or media referenced in its records. All such material remains the intellectual property of its respective creators, rights holders, and holding institutions. References to third-party material are provided for scholarly identification and research purposes only, and users are directed to consult holding institutions directly regarding reproduction and reuse.
